We are currently seeking an experienced Import/Export Associate (Import/Export Agent) in the New York area. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Air Import and Ocean Import operations, along with the ability to communicate effectively in Japanese and familiarity with workflows at a Japanese freight forwarder.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end Air Import and Ocean Import shipments, ensuring smooth and timely processing
Prepare and review import documentation such as invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, and delivery orders
Coordinate shipment schedules and delivery arrangements with airlines, ocean carriers, trucking companies, warehouses, and customers
Ensure compliance with U.S. customs regulations and internal SOPs
Track shipments and proactively resolve any delays, discrepancies, or documentation issues
Communicate with internal teams, overseas offices/agents, and customers (including Japanese-speaking clients)
Maintain accurate shipment records and update operational systems accordingly
Provide high-level customer service and support related to import/export operations
Required Qualifications
Strong ability to independently handle Air Import and Ocean Import operations at an advanced level
Japanese language proficiency
Prior experience working for a freight forwarder
Solid understanding of import documentation and logistics operations
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting both import and export operations (in addition to imports)
Familiarity with major forwarding systems (e.g., CargoWise or similar)
Customer-facing experience with Japanese corporate clients
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly rate: $25–$27/hour
