HR Generalist (Bilingual English/Japanese)
Business-level English and Japanese skills are required.
An international technology-focused organization is seeking a self-driven HR Generalist with strong communication, organizational, and people management skills. This role is responsible for supporting HR operations across the full employee life cycle while partnering closely with leadership to strengthen company culture, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a solid understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and people management initiatives. This position requires the ability to work independently in a primarily remote environment while managing multiple priorities and maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
Role Overview
The HR Generalist plays a key role in driving people management initiatives such as performance feedback and evaluations, manager support and training, talent development, and culture enhancement. This position works closely with executive leadership and managers to provide guidance, resolve employee-related matters, and ensure compliance with local and federal regulations. The role contributes to creating a workplace that balances business productivity with employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily HR operations and core HR processes
- Lead people management initiatives including employee engagement, performance reviews, compensation reviews, manager support and training, talent development, and culture initiatives
- Manage employee relations matters, including handling complaints and grievance procedures in a professional and compliant manner
- Analyze HR metrics and data to support informed decision-making
- Support HR operations such as payroll coordination, recruitment activities, and internal event planning
- Communicate with external agencies and public organizations as needed
- Collaborate regularly with executive leadership and stakeholders based in Japan
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- High IT literacy, including Microsoft 365, collaboration platforms, and AI tools
- Solid understanding of HR-related laws and regulations
- Ability to analyze complex data and present insights clearly and effectively
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment
- Business-level Japanese required for frequent communication with stakeholders in Japan
- Business-level English required
Preferred Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of HR experience, preferably in the IT or technology sector
- Experience leading people management initiatives such as employee engagement, performance and compensation reviews, manager development, talent development, and culture-building efforts
- Comfort working with new and evolving business technologies
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent multitasking and organizational abilities
- Flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment
- Background in organizational psychology, data science, or business analytics is a plus
Location
- Los Angeles, California
- Primarily remote, with occasional in-office or in-person work as required
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Pacific Time)
- Regular participation in weekly meetings with Japan-based HR teams between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Japan Standard Time
Compensation
- Annual salary range: $90,000 – $110,000 — this is including annual bonus equivalent to approximately two months’ salary
