Overview
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of factory equipment across manufacturing operations. This role is accountable for achieving budget targets related to technology, reducing costs, and leading the launch of new projects. The Engineering Manager works closely with cross-functional teams to support operational goals and ensure effective communication with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.
The position requires the ability to respond quickly and collaboratively to changing business conditions while supporting company-wide objectives related to quality, delivery, and cost management.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve customer-required delivery schedules and quality targets.
- Own customer quality performance and support preparation for new and increased production products.
- Manage and achieve budget targets related to tooling and product defect costs, with a focus on continuous cost reduction.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to meet budget goals and provide technical and operational support as needed.
- Provide technical expertise to support other departments in achieving their objectives.
- Investigate root causes of quality defects and implement effective countermeasures.
- Negotiate with trading companies and tool manufacturers to prevent losses related to tool ordering or changeovers, while promoting cost reduction and adoption of new technologies.
- Manage tooling, including repair orders, to prevent production interruptions.
- Provide support during equipment failures and implement corrective actions in collaboration with equipment manufacturers across all facilities.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers regarding failures, spare parts ordering, and on-site service arrangements.
- Exchange technical information with group companies to promote technology sharing and implementation.
- Support planning and preparation activities for new product launches.
- Provide comprehensive support during major operational or company-wide issues to ensure rapid resolution.
- Participate in meetings with group companies as required.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.
- Travel as necessary to strengthen relationships with external partners, including group companies.
- Demonstrate readiness and willingness to take on future management responsibilities.
- Comply with company attendance and workplace policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in engineering, or a minimum of two years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Proven teamwork skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as business needs evolve.
- Must have Japanese at an idiomatic level. English at Business and above. (Visa sponsorship is considerable for the right candidates.)
