A well-established global Japanese trading company is seeking a bilingual Assistant Manager to join its Satellite Communications team in New York. This position is responsible for developing new business opportunities, managing customer relationships, and driving sales growth for satellite communication equipment and related products.
Key Responsibilities
Develop new business opportunities and expand existing customer accounts within the satellite communications market.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers at all levels to support long-term business growth.
Collaborate with manufacturers' engineering and management teams to promote products through customer meetings, presentations, and technical discussions.
Identify customer needs and provide timely, solution-oriented support.
Achieve sales targets and contribute to overall business growth.
Attend customer meetings, industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
Prepare sales reports, customer visit reports, and business activity reports.
Analyze sales performance, profitability, revenue, and product margins.
Manage weekly and monthly sales forecasts and business opportunities.
Support product line planning, forecasting, and market growth strategies.
Monitor inventory and product line performance.
Manage sales-related expenses within approved budgets.
Coordinate customer credit approval processes.
Identify opportunities for complementary products, strategic partnerships, and new business initiatives.
Coordinate inventory planning and approval processes with the Japan headquarters.
Travel approximately 20% as required.
Participate in occasional evening or weekend conference calls with global teams.
Qualifications
Required
Sales experience in the satellite communications industry and/or defense industry.
Strong relationship-building and customer management skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Team-oriented with a customer-focused mindset.
Experience preparing quotations, proposals, and responding to RFPs.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Business-level Japanese and English communication skills (spoken and written).
Preferred
Experience with contract negotiations.
Experience developing technical or solution-based proposals.
Basic knowledge of international trade, logistics, Incoterms, and customs procedures.
Strong business writing skills.
Experience working with Japanese companies.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
