Company Overview

A growing Japanese food manufacturing company is seeking a Purchasing & Procurement Supervisor to support sourcing, supplier management, and supply chain operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of ingredients, packaging materials, and operational supplies while maintaining food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

We are particularly interested in professionals with experience in food manufacturing, purchasing, procurement, supply chain, production planning, or related functions who are looking to contribute to a collaborative and fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing and procurement activities for ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements with vendors.
  • Source and procure food ingredients, seasonings, additives, packaging materials, labels, corrugated products, and MRO supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with Production, Warehouse, and Planning teams to prevent shortages and minimize excess inventory.
  • Ensure all purchased materials comply with company specifications and food safety requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and R&D teams on new product launches, supplier qualification, and material approvals.
  • Analyze market trends, raw material costs, and supply chain risks to support strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Resolve supplier performance issues, delivery delays, quality concerns, and invoice discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier performance metrics, and procurement documentation.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections by ensuring procurement traceability and compliance.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, production planning, or a related function within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience sourcing ingredients, packaging materials, or production-related materials.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in food manufacturing, food processing, beverage, bakery, snack food, frozen food, or related industries.
  • Knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including HACCP, SQF, FDA, and USDA requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of inventory management, demand planning, and supply chain operations.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Japanese language ability is a plus but not required.
