Translator – Production Support – Japanese / English

Location: De Soto, Kansas

Full-Time, Onsite

Total Compensation: Will be discussed during the interview

Relocation support is available

Day shift (8h/day, 5 days a week) or Night Shift (12h/day, 3-4 days a week)


Summary

A Japanese-English bilingual professional is needed to support translation, interpretation, and production-related operations in a manufacturing and construction environment. This role will serve as a key communication bridge between Japanese expatriates and local employees while supporting production, engineering, and construction teams through accurate translations, interpretation, and technical coordination.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


Breakdown of Responsibilities

70% Translation & Interpretation

  • Translate business, technical, and administrative documents between Japanese and English
  • Interpret meetings, conference calls, and daily communications between Japanese and local staff
  • Translate emails, reports, manuals, policies, presentations, contracts, and other business documents
  • Review and edit translated materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality
  • Maintain terminology databases and translation memory tools
  • Conduct terminology and linguistic research as needed

30% Production & Engineering Support

  • Support manufacturing, engineering, and construction-related projects through effective communication and coordination
  • Collaborate closely with production and engineering teams to facilitate project execution
  • Assist with communication between stakeholders to ensure timely completion of project deliverables
  • Provide administrative and operational support related to production activities as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary interpreter between Japanese expatriates and local employees
  • Provide interpretation support for meetings, conference calls, and daily operations
  • Translate technical and non-technical documents accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare and translate correspondence, reports, and other business materials
  • Support production and engineering teams by facilitating bilingual communication
  • Maintain translation quality standards and terminology consistency
  • Be available to support occasional communications outside normal business hours to coordinate with teams in Japan
  • Work in a manufacturing and construction environment while following all required safety procedures
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Business-level fluency in Japanese and English (spoken and written)
  • Professional translation and interpretation experience in a business or technical environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages
  • Ability to translate technical information accurately and efficiently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing or production processes
  • Familiarity with battery manufacturing processes is a plus
  • Experience working on engineering, construction, or industrial projects is preferred

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and construction site environment
  • Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary, including safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, masks, and other protective equipment as required
