Electrical / Control Engineer (Mid-Level)

Location: Madison, Alabama

Salary: $80,000 – $90,000

Experience Level: Mid-Level (Approximately 5–8 years preferred)


Job Summary

A Japanese company is seeking an Intermediate Electrical / Control Engineer to support the integration, programming, installation, and troubleshooting of automated industrial equipment. This is a hands-on hybrid role that combines electrical engineering responsibilities with industrial automation and controls expertise.

The engineer will participate throughout the full project lifecycle, including electrical design, panel assembly, PLC/HMI programming, commissioning, onsite installation, debugging, and customer support. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial automation systems, robot integration, and electrical controls in manufacturing environments.


Responsibilities

  • Design detailed electrical wiring diagrams and circuits using AutoCAD
  • Select electrical components required for automation projects
  • Perform hardwiring, panel assembly, and field installation of electrical and control systems
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs to meet customer requirements and sequencing standards
  • Establish and maintain communication between robots, welders, and safety systems using hardwiring and industrial communication protocols such as:
    • CC-LINK
    • DeviceNet
    • CompoBus
    • CompoNet
    • ProfiBus
  • Support system startup, commissioning, debugging, and equipment validation
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and company quality procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation for wiring, configurations, and control programs
  • Provide onsite installation and technical support (approximately 20% travel currently)

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or electrical engineering
  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI configuration
  • Hands-on experience with installation, testing, and commissioning of industrial equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and automation systems effectively
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving abilities
  • Self-motivated team player with strong communication skills
  • Experience with FANUC, Yaskawa, or Motoman robots is a plus

Technical Skills

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Mitsubishi PLC
  • Omron PLC
  • Allen-Bradley PLC
  • Siemens PLC
  • HMI configuration and industrial automation systems

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on experience and technical training will also be considered
