Summary:
Our client, a well-established Japanese media organization is seeking an Associate Producer to support correspondents and the production team in news gathering and television program production. This role involves research, content development, coordination of interviews and logistics, and occasional script writing or on-site reporting. The ideal candidate has experience in television production, thrives in fast-paced environments, and can manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
News Gathering & Research
- Collect, organize, and compile information, data, and materials for news reporting and production.
- Conduct in-depth research on assigned topics and identify interview subjects, experts, and organizations.
- Build and maintain relationships with reliable sources for news leads and story development.
Content Development
- Pitch story ideas and participate in brainstorming sessions.
- Prepare research briefs, background materials, and fact sheets to support correspondents.
- Ensure accuracy, fact-checking, and objectivity of all content.
Production Coordination & Logistics
- Schedule and coordinate interviews, filming, and related production activities.
- Arrange transportation, accommodations, and other logistics for news gathering and filming.
Writing & Reporting
- Occasionally write news scripts.
- Conduct on-air or on-site reporting as assigned.
Professional & Team Collaboration
- Maintain clear communication with supervisors and production staff.
- Escalate issues appropriately and obtain approvals when required.
- Demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Manage multiple assignments efficiently while meeting deadlines.
- Stay current with industry trends and continuously seek process improvements.
Qualifications
Experience
- Several years of experience in television production or a related field.
- Experience in live broadcast environments strongly preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred.
Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of news broadcasting and TV production processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet research tools.
Language
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Japanese or Spanish language skills are a plus.
Travel & Working Conditions
- Frequent travel to various locations for news gathering and production.
- Ability to lift and move production equipment (cameras, tripods, lighting, etc.).
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in indoor/outdoor environments.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- May be assigned to last-minute or breaking news coverage.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing or challenging environments.
