Position Summary

A Japanese television broadcasting company’s Los Angeles branch is seeking a bilingual (English & Japanese, Spanish is a plus) Assistant Producer. This role supports various aspects of TV program production, including research, field coverage, coordination, and translation.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in journalism and current events, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and is willing to conduct fieldwork and occasional business travel. Entry-level candidates are welcome.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support TV program production, including research, logistics coordination, filming assistance, and basic editing tasks
  • Conduct research from unique and engaging perspectives through team collaboration
  • Communicate and negotiate with interview subjects and external partners
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external contacts to ensure smooth production
  • Drive safely during field coverage assignments
  • Translate news materials (English to Japanese and Japanese to English)
  • Assist with online editing and other production-related tasks
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Passion for journalism and television production
  • Strong interest in current events, including:
    • U.S. national and local news
    • Cultural and social trends
    • U.S. politics
    • News related to Japan, the U.S., and East Asia
    • Japanese national news
  • Business-level English (spoken and written)
  • Conversational-level Japanese (spoken and written)
  • Willingness to drive a car and conduct fieldwork
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team

Preferred Skills (Plus)

  • Spanish language skills
  • Video editing experience
  • Basic knowledge of history or cultural anthropology
