Compensation: $65,000–$72,000 annually

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch) / 35 hours per week

Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt (No remote-only option)

Established third-party logistics (3PL) provider specializing in international freight forwarding and multimodal transportation solutions. Services include air, ocean, rail, and drayage coordination, with global carrier partnerships and overseas affiliates. The organization operates in a small, professional office environment supporting international logistics operations, including collaboration with a Japan-based parent company.

Position Summary

The Supervisor, Freight Forwarding oversees daily international freight forwarding operations, managing import/export shipments and leading a small team of specialists. This role ensures operational accuracy, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency while serving as a key liaison for international coordination. Japanese language ability is preferred to support communication with overseas stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support end-to-end international freight forwarding operations (air, ocean, rail, drayage).
  • Manage and mentor 1–2 Senior Specialists (hybrid staff).
  • Oversee export shipment processes and ensure compliance with global trade regulations (including FMC).
  • Review and approve freight rates; monitor cost control and profit margins.
  • Audit shipment documentation and data entry for accuracy.
  • Resolve escalated logistics and service issues.
  • Maintain relationships with carriers, vendors, and overseas agents.
  • Review billing, prepare invoices as needed, and process vendor payments.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs; ensure cross-training and operational coverage.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support team development.
  • Utilize Cargowise for shipment management and reporting.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of freight forwarding experience, including international export experience.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • 2+ years of Cargowise experience.
  • Strong knowledge of international shipping documentation and global trade regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English proficiently.

Preferred:

  • Japanese language ability (professional proficiency) to support coordination with Japan-based stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite (aligned with direct report schedule).
  • Small office environment (approximately 10 employees onsite).
