Position Overview
We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and scale an internal data platform that supports pricing, inventory, logistics, and marketplace performance in a circular technology business.
This role is hands-on and ELT-focused — you’ll own pipelines into the warehouse, develop curated transformation layers using dbt and/or Dataform, and help standardize how data is modeled, tested, and delivered across the organization. You’ll partner closely with operations, commercial, and engineering teams to transform multi-source data into reliable, decision-ready datasets that drive measurable business impact.
Key Responsibilities
ELT Pipelines & Warehouse Development (Core Focus)
- Build and maintain ELT pipelines into a modern cloud data warehouse (BigQuery or similar)
- Develop, version, and deploy transformation workflows using dbt and/or Dataform
- Create structured data layers (staging → intermediate → marts) to support reporting and analytics
- Implement data testing, validation, and monitoring practices
- Optimize performance, cost efficiency, and scalability of warehouse workloads
Data Modeling & Analytics Enablement
- Design clean, scalable data models aligned with operational and commercial KPIs
- Define and standardize metric logic for pricing, margins, inventory turnover, and sales velocity
- Support BI workflows (Looker, Looker Studio, or similar) with reliable datasets
- Enable advanced analytics initiatives including pricing optimization and operational insights
Engineering & Collaboration
- Establish best practices for version control, documentation, CI/CD, and observability
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and business teams
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help elevate internal data engineering standards
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of data engineering experience (5+ years preferred for senior-level scope)
- Strong hands-on experience with dbt and/or Dataform in production environments
- Advanced SQL skills and strong understanding of data modeling best practices
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar)
- Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for pipeline automation
- Experience working with Git and modern engineering workflows
- Ability to work in a hybrid model and commute to Long Island
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Dataflow, CloudSQL) or similar cloud environments
- Experience implementing data quality, monitoring, and observability frameworks
- Experience building dashboards with BI tools
- Background in logistics, warehouse systems, supply chain, or marketplace platforms
- Experience working with distributed or global teams
- Business-level Japanese proficiency
