Position Overview

We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer to build and scale an internal data platform that supports pricing, inventory, logistics, and marketplace performance in a circular technology business.

This role is hands-on and ELT-focused — you’ll own pipelines into the warehouse, develop curated transformation layers using dbt and/or Dataform, and help standardize how data is modeled, tested, and delivered across the organization. You’ll partner closely with operations, commercial, and engineering teams to transform multi-source data into reliable, decision-ready datasets that drive measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

ELT Pipelines & Warehouse Development (Core Focus)

  • Build and maintain ELT pipelines into a modern cloud data warehouse (BigQuery or similar)
  • Develop, version, and deploy transformation workflows using dbt and/or Dataform
  • Create structured data layers (staging → intermediate → marts) to support reporting and analytics
  • Implement data testing, validation, and monitoring practices
  • Optimize performance, cost efficiency, and scalability of warehouse workloads

Data Modeling & Analytics Enablement

  • Design clean, scalable data models aligned with operational and commercial KPIs
  • Define and standardize metric logic for pricing, margins, inventory turnover, and sales velocity
  • Support BI workflows (Looker, Looker Studio, or similar) with reliable datasets
  • Enable advanced analytics initiatives including pricing optimization and operational insights

Engineering & Collaboration

  • Establish best practices for version control, documentation, CI/CD, and observability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and business teams
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help elevate internal data engineering standards

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of data engineering experience (5+ years preferred for senior-level scope)
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt and/or Dataform in production environments
  • Advanced SQL skills and strong understanding of data modeling best practices
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar)
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for pipeline automation
  • Experience working with Git and modern engineering workflows
  • Ability to work in a hybrid model and commute to Long Island

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Cloud (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Dataflow, CloudSQL) or similar cloud environments
  • Experience implementing data quality, monitoring, and observability frameworks
  • Experience building dashboards with BI tools
  • Background in logistics, warehouse systems, supply chain, or marketplace platforms
  • Experience working with distributed or global teams
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency
