Senior Software Engineer (Backend – APIs & Relational Databases)

Location: Long Island, NY (Hybrid – Remote + Office)

Salary: $80,000 – $150,000

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s strongest where it matters most: building clean, reliable APIs and working comfortably in relational databases. You’ll own backend services that support core operations—inventory, logistics, pricing, and internal tooling—so the work you ship will be used every day, not someday

You’ll also collaborate with a global engineering group across the U.S. and Japan, helping improve how systems are designed, delivered, and maintained.

What You’ll Do (Core Focus)

  • API & Backend Engineering
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and REST/HTTP APIs using Python, Go, or TypeScript
  • Improve service architecture for scalability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Write clear, testable code that supports business-critical workflows

Relational Database Design & Ownership

  • Design schemas, write queries, and optimize performance using PostgreSQL / CloudSQL
  • Ensure data integrity, maintainability, and clean integration between services and data
  • Support reporting and data integration needs (including BigQuery touchpoints when relevant)

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support production systems (debugging, incident response, root cause analysis)
  • Contribute to CI/CD and infrastructure improvements (Terraform, GitHub Actions, cloud ops)
  • Improve monitoring/observability and operational automation

What We’re Looking For

Must-Haves

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong experience designing and building APIs
  • Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Comfortable working with Git and team-based development workflows
  • Business-level English
  • Able to commute to the Long Island office as needed

Preferred

  • Cloud experience (GCP or AWS)
  • Terraform, CI/CD, Docker/containers
  • Experience supporting production systems
  • Business-level Japanese
