Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Superintendent to support the supervision and coordination of large-scale industrial construction projects in Phoenix, Arizona. Working closely with the Site Manager, this position helps oversee daily field operations, coordinate subcontractors and construction resources, and ensure project activities are completed in accordance with established safety, quality, and scheduling requirements. The ideal candidate has practical construction experience, strong field coordination skills, and the ability to identify and resolve issues that may affect project execution. This role offers an opportunity to take on increasing site leadership responsibilities while contributing to complex industrial construction projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Construction Site Supervision & Field Operations
- Support the Site Manager in overseeing daily construction activities and coordinating work across assigned project areas.
- Monitor subcontractor activities and field operations to ensure work is performed according to approved construction plans, technical specifications, and project requirements.
- Coordinate site facilities, temporary installations, safety equipment, and construction resources in accordance with applicable regulations and site procedures.
- Assist with planning equipment and material deliveries to support construction priorities and installation schedules.
- Work directly with contractors, suppliers, and engineering teams to identify field challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Promote safe working conditions, proper housekeeping, and compliance with project-specific safety procedures.
Construction Scheduling & Project Execution
- Review project schedules, construction milestones, and daily field progress to identify potential delays or operational constraints.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and project teams to support timely completion of construction activities.
- Assist in developing recovery plans and corrective actions when construction progress deviates from established schedules.
- Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, BIM models, and installation documentation to verify field conditions and construction requirements.
- Identify installation discrepancies and coordinate resolution with engineering and construction personnel.
- Support implementation of improved construction practices to enhance efficiency, safety, and project performance.
Project Coordination & Field Reporting
- Prepare weekly construction progress reports, field activity summaries, and supporting documentation for site management.
- Participate in construction coordination meetings and communicate project updates, concerns, and priorities to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate construction records, work progress documentation, and field issue tracking reports.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and project management teams to resolve construction-related issues.
- Escalate concerns involving project schedules, quality, safety, manpower, costs, or other operational risks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned, and additional site management responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in construction, field supervision, project coordination, installation management, or site execution.
- Experience supporting industrial, commercial, utility, or other complex construction projects.
- Understanding of construction site operations, subcontractor coordination, project scheduling, and field execution.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, engineering specifications, and installation requirements.
- Experience monitoring construction progress, identifying field issues, and supporting corrective actions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across construction teams and external partners.
- Demonstrated leadership potential, self-motivation, and commitment to professional development.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification required.
- OSHA 510 Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain after hire.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Additional EHS certifications, such as ASP, CSP, or CHST, are valued.
- Specialized safety training, including HAZWOPER, ESS, NFPA 70E, Fall Protection, or MEWP, preferred.
Additional Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project or other construction scheduling software preferred.
- Experience using project collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, SharePoint, Smartsheet, or Autodesk Forma is a plus.
- Ability to navigate and interpret construction drawings, BIM models, project schedules, and engineering documentation using AutoCAD, Navisworks, Revit, or similar tools. Drafting experience is not required.
- Familiarity with look-ahead schedules, digital field reporting systems, construction tracking applications, and mobile site management tools.
- Strong documentation, construction reporting, and project coordination abilities.
- Effective communication skills when working with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and project management personnel.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, adapt to changing site conditions, and proactively address construction challenges.
Work Environment
- This is a full-time, on-site position supporting active industrial construction projects in Phoenix, Arizona.
- The role involves frequent interaction with construction personnel, subcontractors, and engineering teams, along with office-based responsibilities such as scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
- Candidates should be comfortable working in active construction environments where exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction equipment, airborne particles, electrical hazards, and vibration may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used when required.
- The position may involve occasional lifting or moving of items weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as standing, walking, and performing field observations. Candidates must be able to review technical documents and visually assess construction activities.
- Travel to other project locations within the United States may be required. Background checks and/or drug screening may apply based on project requirements.
