Account Support Representative

Location: Columbus, IN

Compensation: Approx. $41.6k–$52k/yr DOE + bonus

Hours: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Japanese language ability required. This role requires regular reading, writing, speaking, and translation support in Japanese and English for customer, vendor, and internal sales documentation.

Company Overview

A U.S.-based industrial machinery company imports machinery from Japan and works with both Japanese and U.S. suppliers. The company is expanding machine-related projects with customers and is adding inside sales support to strengthen quoting, ordering, invoicing, and customer coordination.

Position Summary

The Account Support Representative will support the outside sales team and internal sales operations. This role is heavily documentation-focused and requires accurate handling of Japanese and English documents. Responsibilities include processing quotes, purchase orders, sales orders, invoices, and related machine project documentation. The position also involves translating orders and invoices into English to support sales planning and internal coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer requests for quotations, product information, and order status
  • Support outside sales representatives with quoting, ordering, invoicing, and customer follow-up
  • Process purchase orders, sales orders, machine duties, and customer invoices
  • Request quotes from vendors and coordinate pricing or product details as needed
  • Review and translate Japanese-language orders, invoices, and incoming documents into English
  • Maintain accurate internal documentation using English-based systems
  • Communicate with Japanese and U.S. suppliers, customers, and internal teams as needed
  • Work closely with sales engineers and internal staff on machine-related projects
  • Provide general customer service and inside sales support

Qualifications

Required:

  • Professional Japanese and English proficiency, including speaking, reading, and writing
  • Ability to translate Japanese business documents into English accurately
  • Strong customer service, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel
  • Basic computer competency and ability to learn internal systems
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1–3 years of related customer service, inside sales, administrative, or order-processing experience

Preferred:

  • Associate degree or equivalent business/technical education
  • Experience working with a distributor, machinery-related company, or Japanese manufacturer
  • Experience with purchase orders, sales orders, invoicing, quoting, or vendor coordination
