Company Overview
An automotive manufacturing organization is seeking a Direct Material Buyer to support production-related sourcing and purchasing activities. This role works closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity targets are met.
Position Summary
The Direct Material Buyer position is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and purchasing direct materials and components used in automotive manufacturing operations. This position manages supplier relationships, supports production needs, analyzes purchasing data, and helps drive cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for direct materials and commodities.
- Process purchase requisitions, obtain and negotiate quotations, evaluate bids, and award contracts in alignment with company requirements.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to support cost savings and value improvement.
- Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to support new product launches, ongoing production, and inventory requirements.
- Analyze market trends, cost structures, and supplier capabilities to support strategic sourcing decisions.
- Ensure timely procurement and mitigate supply risks to avoid production disruptions.
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, documentation, and compliance with internal procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Use judgment and initiative to resolve issues and make recommendations; consult with management on complex matters.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good understanding of automotive supply chain and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and data analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail and financial aptitude.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Results-oriented, accountable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Strong negotiation, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in automotive purchasing or direct material sourcing.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Other Details
This is a salary, exempt position and is not eligible for overtime pay.
