Job Description (Public Posting)

We are an agency recruiter supporting our client in hiring for a critical early-stage role within the ophthalmic medical device space. This position will play a central role in launching and establishing a new product in the U.S. retinal market.

This role focuses on building the market from the ground up—leveraging clinical engagement, KOL partnerships, and distributor collaboration rather than relying solely on existing brand recognition or extensive clinical data.

Industry: Medical Device (Ophthalmology)

Location: United States (Field-based)

Required Qualifications

  • 5–8+ years of experience in the ophthalmic medical device industry, especially in retina/vitreoretinal space
  • Hands-on experience with disposable (single-use) surgical instruments
  • Direct experience engaging with vitreoretinal surgeons (e.g., Clinical Specialist, Market Development, or hybrid sales roles)
  • Experience working with or supporting U.S. distributor networks
  • Ability to operate effectively in an early-stage environment with limited data and structure
  • Prior experience with companies specializing in vitreoretinal instruments

Responsibilities

KOL & Clinical Engagement

  • Identify and build relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in retina/vitreoretinal field
  • Support product evaluations, wet labs, and hands-on training sessions
  • Translate limited bench/pre-clinical data into compelling clinical value propositions
  • Gather feedback from surgeons and incorporate insights into messaging and strategy

Market Development

  • Define clear use cases where the product can differentiate (e.g., ILM/ERM peeling)
  • Develop strong clinical narratives in data-limited environments
  • Support planning and execution of workshops and small meetings at conferences (e.g., ASRS, AAO)

Distributor Management

  • Support selection and onboarding of U.S. distributors in collaboration with leadership
  • Train distributor sales teams on product positioning and clinical value
  • Act as a clinical/product point of contact for early-stage distributor partners

Internal Collaboration

  • Provide market and clinical feedback to HQ teams (R&D, Marketing, Leadership)
  • Support development and refinement of training materials, sales tools, and pitch decks
