Our client, a Japanese food manufacturing company is seeking a bilingual Production Supervisor to oversee daily food manufacturing operations. This role supervises production staff engaged in food processing, packaging, and shipping, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met. The position requires both hands-on floor supervision and desk-based administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations & Scheduling

  • Analyze work orders to estimate labor hours and create production schedules aligned with internal and customer deadlines
  • Calculate required stock and supplies based on production schedules and requisition materials
  • Interpret job specifications and assign duties to production staff
  • Open facility daily and ensure operational readiness
  • Maintain production and time records

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Inspect and measure products to ensure compliance with specifications
  • Verify finished goods prior to shipping
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Promote and enforce safety and security procedures

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Develop and implement improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and product quality
  • Suggest improvements to working conditions and equipment usage
  • Manage utilities consumption to maximize operational efficiency
  • Support cross-training initiatives among production staff

Supervision & Team Management

  • Supervise about 10 employees within the Production Department
  • Interview, hire, train, evaluate, and discipline staff in accordance with company policies
  • Provide performance feedback and support employee development
  • Address employee concerns and resolve operational issues

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Japanese and English (required)
  • Practical experience in a food manufacturing environment (required)
  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and production/inventory systems)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control standards
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment
