Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing core accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting reporting requirements for the U.S. subsidiary and its consolidated entities. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate standards, while supporting the finance team in driving accurate reporting and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Record company transactions and maintain the general ledger and related accounts for business units and subsidiaries.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow).
- Reconcile account balances, investigate discrepancies, and resolve anomalies.
- Prepare consolidated financial reports and reporting packages for Japan HQ and U.S. auditors.
- Perform bank reconciliations, wire transfers, and monthly adjustments for current assets and liabilities.
- Review payroll data and support payroll processing accuracy.
- Stay updated on accounting standards and best practices.
2. Cash Flow & Cost Control
- Assist in cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Support inventory valuation and cost control for food, labor, and operating expenses.
- Partner with operations to improve efficiency and profit margins.
3. Budgeting & Financial Analysis
- Assist with development and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts for restaurant locations.
- Prepare schedules for collecting and analyzing financial data to support management decisions.
4. Tax Compliance
- Support timely and accurate preparation of federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Coordinate with external CPAs on corporate income tax, sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and business license tax.
5. Internal Controls & Audit
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Assist in implementing best practices in accounting operations to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
6. Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize ERP (e.g., Restaurant365), POS (e.g., Toast), and payroll systems for accounting operations.
- Support automation of accounting processes including reporting, payroll, and A/P & A/R.
- Identify and suggest process improvements.
7. Team Collaboration
- Work closely with accounting and finance colleagues to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments and external auditors/advisors.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-location restaurant or retail business.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in accounting, auditing, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills; experience with ERP systems (Restaurant365), POS systems (Toast), and payroll platforms.
- Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English).
