Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Specialist to support inspection and quality assurance activities for industrial equipment, engineered systems, and related manufacturing operations in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. This position focuses on verifying the quality of materials, components, assemblies, and completed equipment throughout receiving, production, and final inspection stages. The specialist will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and project teams to ensure that products and installations meet technical specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in industrial quality inspection, understands engineering drawings and technical documentation, and is comfortable working with electrical, mechanical, and piping-related equipment.
What You'll Be Doing
Equipment Inspection & Quality Verification
- Conduct receiving, in-process, and final inspections of industrial equipment, components, assemblies, and related systems.
- Inspect mechanical components, piping assemblies, electrical equipment, and control panels against approved engineering specifications.
- Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation.
- Verify materials, dimensions, component identification, workmanship, and installation quality.
- Identify damaged materials, manufacturing defects, assembly discrepancies, and nonconforming conditions.
- Assist with functional testing, dimensional verification, and other inspection activities as authorized and trained.
- Verify that inspection and measurement equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
Quality Compliance & Documentation
- Perform inspections according to approved procedures, inspection and test plans, and established quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, checklists, test results, and quality records.
- Identify and document nonconforming materials, equipment, and workmanship.
- Support nonconformance reporting (NCR), corrective actions, reinspection, and issue resolution.
- Maintain material traceability, calibration records, inspection photographs, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with preparation of customer turnover packages and final quality documentation.
- Support quality management practices consistent with ISO 9001 requirements.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Continuous Improvement
- Work with engineering, manufacturing, production, and project teams to address quality-related concerns.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to clarify technical requirements and resolve inspection findings.
- Participate in quality meetings, production reviews, and inspection planning activities.
- Support supplier and project-site inspections when required.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection procedures, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Follow applicable workplace safety requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
- Perform additional quality control and inspection duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Professional Experience
- Approximately 6 months to 2 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial equipment inspection, quality control, or related technical functions.
- Experience inspecting industrial components, assemblies, or manufactured equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and inspection documentation.
- Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, or piping-related equipment and components.
- Understanding of inspection methods, measurement tools, and calibration requirements.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality management environment preferred.
- Familiarity with customer turnover documentation and quality records is a plus.
- Experience with industrial control panels, PLC systems, or electrical components is beneficial.
Education & Certifications
- Technical school diploma, associate degree, or other relevant technical education.
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry or Construction Safety training preferred.
- UL 508A-related training or knowledge is a plus.
- Electrical inspection or electrician trainee credentials are valued.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Additional Skills
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with inspection tools, measurement equipment, and calibration procedures.
- Basic understanding of electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and industrial workplace safety practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic documentation systems.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills when working with engineering, production, quality, and supplier teams.
- Ability to maintain organized inspection records and accurately document findings.
- Willingness to learn new inspection methods and expand technical knowledge across multiple equipment disciplines.
Work Environment
- This is a primarily on-site position supporting industrial equipment manufacturing and quality inspection activities in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
- The role involves working in production and inspection environments, reviewing technical documentation, inspecting equipment, and collaborating with manufacturing and engineering personnel.
- Employees must follow established safety procedures when working around industrial equipment, electrical components, and manufacturing operations. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used when required.
