Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Piping BIM Engineer to support the design, coordination, and execution of complex industrial construction projects in Phoenix, Arizona. This position focuses on developing and managing 3D piping models, coordinating engineering information, and identifying potential design conflicts before and during construction. The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure piping layouts, materials, and installation requirements are accurately reflected in digital models. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Autodesk Plant 3D, piping design fundamentals, and BIM coordination, along with the ability to translate engineering drawings into practical construction deliverables.
What You'll Be Doing
3D Piping Design & Model Development
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D models of piping systems, pipe supports, and associated equipment using Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to create accurate piping layouts.
- Model piping components, including fittings, valves, supports, and equipment connections.
- Develop and manage piping specifications, component catalogs, and material attributes within the BIM environment.
- Incorporate piping dimensions, material specifications, and installation requirements into coordinated 3D designs.
- Prepare detailed piping drawings and fabrication-related documentation to support construction activities.
BIM Coordination & Clash Resolution
- Perform clash detection and interference reviews across piping, structural, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to identify design conflicts and develop practical resolutions.
- Use Navisworks and other coordination tools to review integrated project models.
- Track model revisions, design updates, and coordination issues throughout project execution.
- Support the development of coordinated installation plans based on site conditions and construction requirements.
Material Quantification & Construction Support
- Extract and verify bills of materials (BOM) and material take-offs (MTO) from 3D piping models.
- Review piping quantities, including pipe lengths, fittings, valves, and related components, to support procurement and project cost management.
- Maintain accurate material and fabrication information, including spool status and welding-related data.
- Coordinate with project teams to monitor fabrication and installation progress.
- Develop progress tracking reports and visualizations using model data and project information.
- Assist with the preparation of construction documentation, technical reports, and project deliverables.
