Mold Design Engineer

Location: Smyrna, GA

Compensation: $26–$28/hour

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM or 9:00 AM–6:00 PM

Position Summary

Seeking a detail-oriented Mold Design Engineer to develop 2D/3D mold designs, prepare technical drawings, coordinate mold trials, and support plastic container development and quality inspections. This role collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create 2D/3D CAD drawings for preforms, mold assemblies, components, and modifications.
  • Prepare mold specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), item codes, and revision records.
  • Coordinate pilot and production mold trials, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate design feasibility, cavitation, cycle times, and mold requirements.
  • Convert customer drawings, models, and samples into CAD designs.
  • Review engineering drawings and technical reports for accuracy.
  • Perform container inspections, including dimensional, capacity, wall thickness, drop, and compression testing.
  • Operate 3D scanning equipment for design evaluation and modeling.
  • Maintain mold components, sample inventory, and confidential technical records.
  • Coordinate with customers, sales, manufacturing teams, and engineering departments.
  • Support sample shipments and basic training for junior engineers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, 5+ years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 2D/3D mechanical design.
  • Understanding of engineering mathematics, geometry, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with plastic container mold design or injection stretch blow molding.
  • Familiarity with mold trials, modifications, container testing, and 3D scanning.
