Senior Accountant

U.S. Operations | International Business | Hands-On Accounting Leadership

About the Opportunity

An international company is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee accounting operations for its growing U.S. business.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, cash management, and internal controls while collaborating closely with Hong Kong headquarters. You will also supervise a staff member supporting finance and office administration and serve as the primary contact for external auditors, tax consultants, and other professional advisors.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, hands-on accounting professional who enjoys building effective processes and supporting business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
  • Coordinate financial reporting with Hong Kong headquarters.

Cash Management & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee vendor payments, employee expense reimbursements, and payment requests.
  • Reconcile POS and operating system sales with cash, credit card, delivery platform, and bank settlements.
  • Coordinate payroll accounting and reconcile payroll records to the general ledger.
  • Perform bank reconciliations, monitor cash balances, and prepare cash flow forecasts.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation, disposals, and capital expenditure accounting.
  • Coordinate banking matters and support working capital management.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Maintain effective internal controls, approval procedures, and financial governance practices.
  • Ensure proper documentation, record retention, and audit trails.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency.
  • Support accounting system implementation, enhancements, automation, and standardized reporting.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Analyze variances and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses to support business decisions.

Tax, Compliance & External Advisor Coordination

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on corporate income tax, sales tax, and other compliance requirements.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for tax filings, regulatory reporting, and audits.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with auditors, payroll providers, insurance brokers, banks, and other professional service providers.
  • Coordinate annual audits, respond to information requests, and follow up on findings and recommendations.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

Staff Supervision & Office Administration

  • Supervise and guide a staff member handling finance and administrative support.
  • Assign and review tasks to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely completion.
  • Oversee office supplies, vendor coordination, facility follow-up, document management, and general office administration.
  • Coordinate administrative and operational matters with Hong Kong headquarters and local service providers.

Qualifications

Required

  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, including responsibility for full-cycle accounting for U.S. operations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and financial governance.
  • Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax consultants, payroll providers, and other professional advisors.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience in retail, restaurants, food and beverage, hospitality, or multi-location operations.
  • Experience working within an international organization or reporting to overseas headquarters.
  • Experience establishing accounting processes and controls for a growing business.
  • Familiarity with budgeting tools, finance system implementations, and process improvement projects.
  • Cantonese and/or Mandarin proficiency to support communication with Hong Kong headquarters.
