A growing Japanese startup is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager to join during an exciting early-stage phase. This role offers a unique opportunity to go beyond traditional accounting and play a key role in building the organization’s foundation, with exposure to general affairs and cross-functional operations under executive leaders.

Job Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
Support day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and bank reconciliations, in collaboration with the finance BPO provider and Tokyo headquarters.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation of financial statements for review by Tokyo headquarters and consolidated reporting purposes.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation for all financial transactions.
Process vendor onboarding, accounts payable, invoice verification, payment scheduling, and employee expense reimbursements.
Assist with monitoring cash balances and preparing cash flow reports and forecasts.
Support the implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Collaborate with Tokyo headquarters and external service providers to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
General Affairs & Administrative Support
Support office administration and general affairs activities as needed.
Coordinate with external vendors, service providers, and internal stakeholders on operational matters.
Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives in a growing startup environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and month-end close processes.
Experience with QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills.
Experience with financial reporting and consolidation is preferred.
Experience supporting audits, payroll processing, or multi-state operations is a plus.
Experience working in a startup, high-growth, or entrepreneurial environment is highly preferred.
Business-level English required; Japanese language skills are highly preferred but not required.
Experience working with Japanese companies, international organizations, or global teams is a plus.
