Credit Associate ( Bilingual Japanese/English Required)

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced Credit Associate to support its corporate banking portfolio. This position focuses on evaluating the creditworthiness of U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese and other Asian companies, preparing credit applications, and monitoring an assigned loan portfolio.

The Credit Associate will report to a Team Leader, collaborate closely with Relationship Managers, and communicate regularly with credit teams in both the United States and Japan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the financial performance of borrowers and their parent companies, including historical results, cash flow, risk capital, and financial projections.
  • Prepare credit applications, credit analyses, and pre-screening memoranda for review by the Credit Department.
  • Gather supporting documentation, assist with deal structuring, and coordinate with middle- and back-office teams on KYC requirements.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual portfolio reviews and maintain accurate internal credit grades and borrower reporting.
  • Support amendments, new loan originations, closings, funding, and other credit events affecting borrowers.
  • Research relevant industries, sectors, regions, and individual credits while remaining current on market and economic conditions.
  • Address procedural and system-related matters associated with the loan portfolio.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and reports for management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent education and training will also be considered.
  • At least five years of relevant experience at a corporate bank or other financial institution.
  • Formal credit training preferred.
  • Strong financial statement, cash flow, and credit-risk analysis capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Japanese-language proficiency is required.
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and communicate with stakeholders in both the United States and Japan.
