Japanese-English Bilingual Family Support Interpreter

Employment Type Part-Time, On-Call (As Needed)

Location Springfield and Dayton, Ohio

Pay rate $27-$32/hour DOE, Travel expenses are included in the hourly rate

Position Summary

A Japanese company is seeking a reliable Japanese-English bilingual interpreter to provide language and family support services for Japanese expatriate families. This position is on an as-needed basis and is ideal for individuals seeking flexible work opportunities.

Support needs vary throughout the year. Some months may require little or no support, while others may involve multiple assignments. Candidates should be comfortable with a flexible and on-call work arrangement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide Japanese-English interpretation during medical appointments
  • Accompany expatriate family members to hospitals, clinics, schools, and other appointments
  • Assist with communication between families and healthcare providers, school personnel, and local organizations
  • Support newly arrived expatriate families as they navigate daily life in the United States
  • Respond to urgent support requests when available

Qualifications

  • Business-level fluency in both Japanese and English (spoken and written)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel within the Springfield and Dayton area
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to accept assignments on short notice when possible

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous interpreting or translation experience
  • Experience supporting Japanese expatriates, international families, or multicultural communities
  • Medical or educational interpreting experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with healthcare and school systems in the United States
