Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our manufacturing team in Auburn, AL. This role is a hybrid of general ledger management, operational oversight of AP/AR, and ensuring the integrity of our financial data through robust Audit and Tax Compliance support. You will be the primary link between our production floor and our financial stakeholders, ensuring that all operational activity is accurately reflected and legally compliant. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounts Payable & Receivable (Full Cycle) 

  • Three-Way Matching: Execute matching of Purchase Orders (PO), receiving documents, and vendor invoices for manufacturing components.
  • AR Aging & Collections: Monitor the AR aging report and lead collection efforts to minimize Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Dispute Resolution: Resolve discrepancies with vendors and customers regarding shipping, pricing, or damaged goods. 

2. Cash Management & Bank Reconciliation

  • Daily Cash Positioning: Monitor and report on daily cash balances to ensure optimal liquidity for manufacturing operations.
  • Reconciliation: Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of all bank and credit card statements to ensure records match bank balances.
  • Transaction Processing: Handle wire transfers, ACH transactions, and the preparation of daily bank deposits. 

3. General Accounting & Month-End Close

  • Closing Procedures: Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations to ensure a timely monthly close.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist the Controller in preparing balance sheets, income statements, and budget-to-actual variance reports. 

4. Audit Support & Tax Compliance

  • Audit Readiness: Prepare and organize detailed audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • Tax Filings: Assist in the preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including sales, use, and property taxes.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all financial procedures adhere to GAAP and internal controls to mitigate tax risk and legal exposure.
  • Discrepancy Resolution: Act as a liaison during audits, responding to inquiries and resolving any identified discrepancies. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required.
  • Experience: 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a Manufacturing or Distribution environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in ERP systems like SAP, S/4 HANA.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft office 365.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas).
  • Soft Skills: Meticulous attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
