Construction Quality Control Engineer

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Reports To: Executive Vice President, Microelectronics / Site Manager (TBD)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: Approximately $95,000 annually (based on experience)


Position Summary

The Construction Quality Control Supervisor supports the Site Manager in overseeing construction activities for water treatment systems, with a primary focus on piping installation and quality assurance. This role ensures that construction work meets project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and schedules. The position involves close coordination with subcontractors, inspectors, and internal teams to support successful project execution.

Experience with plastic piping systems is preferred but not required.


Key Responsibilities

Construction & Quality Control (90%)

  • Assist the Site Manager in coordinating construction activities, site facilities, and safety requirements in compliance with U.S. regulations and client standards.
  • Monitor construction progress against drawings, P&IDs, piping layouts, and schedules; identify and report discrepancies.
  • Coordinate delivery and installation of SKID units and equipment, ensuring quality requirements are met.
  • Prepare for and support third-party inspections, including documentation preparation and on-site coordination.
  • Work with subcontractors to ensure inspection readiness and resolve quality-related issues.
  • Identify non-conformances, support corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Attend meetings with clients and contractors to communicate quality requirements and project expectations.
  • Work Schedule: On-site, five (5) days per week.
  • Travel: Approximately 10% (outside Arizona).

Reporting & Support (10%)

  • Prepare and submit weekly progress and issue reports to the Site Manager.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain clear communication with site personnel, office staff, and external partners.
  • Ensure work areas meet safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Promptly escalate issues impacting quality, safety, cost, or schedule.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction quality control or inspection.
  • Experience in water treatment, industrial facilities, or large-scale piping projects preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and construction quality documentation.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of construction quality control and inspection practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience managing inspections, testing, and non-conformance reports.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Tools & Technology

  • Standard office equipment and computer systems.
  • Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Experience with quality control software or digital inspection tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with field reporting or mobile site applications preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid U.S. work authorization required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour (Construction) and OSHA 510 required or willingness to obtain after hire.
  • Preferred: Quality or inspection certifications (CQE, ISO 9001 Internal Auditor).
  • Preferred: Specialized safety training (HAZWOPER, NFPA 70E).
  • Preferred: Arizona aerial lift certification or willingness to obtain.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • May oversee quality control inspectors or coordinate subcontractors to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily based at active construction sites and requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and visual inspection of work areas. The role may involve lifting up to 25 pounds, working at heights or in confined spaces, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times on site.
